Reality television fans. 'America's Next Top Model' fans. Angelea Preston fans. The wait is over. When Angelea told me she was ready to talk she meant it.
After months of Angelea and I attempting to secure a time for this interview the busy model and new mother was able to take the time out while caring for her sick son Eric (that you will hear in the background at certain moments) to catch up with us. I know many will say that she should have been taking care of her son and that her priorities aren't in order but, the truth is, Angelea is a very devoted mother. We appreciate Angelea's commitment to us and the fact that she did this interview while also caring for her sick son.
Ever since her surprising disqualification from 'America's Next Top Model: Cycle 17' fans have been wondering what happened. Did she win? Why did they rerecord the last judging panel? Was she disqualified because she was pregnant? Was she disqualified because she spilled the ending on social networking sites? You will find all that out in this interview. Not only that but, Angelea opens up about who her friends from the show are, who she doesn't like from the show, what happened after the show ended, and what she has coming up in 2013.
Angelea Preston sets the record straight about the controversy surrounding 'America's Next Top Model: Cycle 17'
Angelea: "...The assumption is correct. I did indeed win Cycle 17. Listen honey, I'm trying to write a book about my whole life and that part of my life is definitely, I mean my life is already interesting even before Top Model, I guess if you want to say, made me who I am or gave me my platform but, I guess that's the part everybody wants to know. They want to know the real story. No I did not blab on Facebook or Twitter..."
Sire: "I knew that because you know we were already friends on all the social networks"
Angelea: "Yea we're friends on Facebook so, I know when you heard that rumor you were, looking on my timeline 'wait a minute let me see if this bitch really did that,' honestly though Sire, that would be something stupid. The prizes were so incredible for that one cycle. Are you kidding me? I would not mess that up by going on Twitter and going on Facebook, 'yeah guys I won.' Like no, that's just not me. I would never do that.
And she continues...
"What I will say about them taking it away from me, and I'll keep it at that, until of course I get everything situated with a book deal, so I'll throw that it in the air. Basically, the reason it was taken away from me is hypocrisy...but, I found such peace when it was aired how it was aired because the way they aired it, they could have played it so many different directions where people didn't even question what happened to me, because I got sick over in Greece. So they could have written me off. They were filming all of this, I went to the hospital and everything. They could have used that but, either they wanted people to question it or they didn't think people were going to question it. People were just going to be like 'oh, okay, they're in L.A., Angelea's gone, okay,' but the fact that the viewers knew you 'something ain't right' and 'we know she won 'cus this is just like some bullshit like, this is just crazy how they're, wow.' I was so happy because that was the one thing that really upset me and hurt me. At the end of the day forget the money, forget the contract. I just want people to know I won and by the way they were talking about editing it, it was making it seem like no one was ever going to know I won, so that hurt me. I'm a winner and I came back and I won this and I want people to know. I don't care you can have the $100,000, you can have contracts. I'll hustle on my own to get that but, if people don't know that was originally mine, then I'm going to be upset and of course I'm going to be hurt. So that, when people knew that I won, I was just like 'o, okay, yes God, okay you know, you looking out for me 'cus I don't even have to say it, but people they know.'
On her relationship with Lisa after the show:
Angelea: "...you know there was a time where I was upset at Lisa because of the way she handled the situation with the questions that were being asked of her but, then I also understand it now because, you know she has stuff, with a show like that she has obligations. Of course they gave it you you're not going to be the one to say 'well you know I really didn't win but, you know since they gave it to me...' No if you want your money you got to play by their rules. So, you know I was upset at her but, we're cool now. She sent the baby some gifts for the baby shower and she sent me stuff as well in the Summer time. So I'm very thankful to her as well."
On the shows editing:
Angelea: "...there was one thing that I do remember, the perfume challenge. Dominique took extremely long. She took so long. So the camera, they were getting shots of us. I was rolling my eyes, Bianca was rolling her eyes falling asleep, Allison was like 'Oh God, please hurry up.' But, when you watch it when Allison is up they show Bianca rolling her eyes and me rolling my eyes..."

ReplyDeleteShe's alluded elsewhere that it was hypocrisy because she was disqualified due to something in her past while Lisa was admired by Tyra for her ability to overcome her past (including alcohol, and I believe drugs). So I'm thinking Angelea had a felony conviction for something which you're supposed to note on applications for these reality shows. But if she didn't let them know, then goes and says something like, "Oh, I've overcome so much since my felony conviction..." then the producers go, "Huh??? You were SUPPOSED to reveal that information from day one for the safety of yourself and everyone else."
SO there you have it. My personal sleuthing since Angelea is either contractually obligated or personally unwilling to reveal this info (unless it's in a book deal for $$$).

ReplyDeleteThank you to Leo and Angelea for revealing what really happened. I so appreciate you taking the time to do this interview and giving us the T on what happened during All Stars. Girl, you were robbed and those of us who know what goes on behind the scenes have always been on your side. We love you ( especially me, grrrrl! ) and only want the best for you. Glad to know you're succeeding more than the haters would ever give you credit for. They don't realize just how intelligent you really are and what an inspiration you are. I hate saying it ( not really ) but Ms. Banks showed her ass one too many times during all the seasons of ANTM by making bad decisions. She's not all she thinks she is and although she may try hard to be a good person and she is for the most part, she too is human and will therefore make mistakes. She made a huge one concerning you and so many other young girls as we all can see, it's now come to bite her in the ass. I wish her no ill will at all of course. That's not who I am. I respect her highly. I merely wish she would set the record str8 herself and just admit to her faults and the mistakes she has made over the years on ANTM. Angelea, good things are happening for you now and it's all because of the good energy and positivity you have put out to The Universe. Good things happen to those who deserve it. We all make mistakes and we all have to make mistakes or why else would we be here in this dimension and on this journey of life? We are all here to learn. You've come a long way, girl and I'm very proud of you as are all of your family, friends and fans. Keep up the great work and keep up the positivity! It will get you where you need to be and are already headed. Best of luck on the book and my best to your little bundle of joy. ReplyDeleteI really think it's wrong to say she did not deserve it. We should not make any assumptions! I mean if she was a felon or whatever i think it is her story to tell, but it is wrong to deny her of something she rightfully deserves. She won it fare and square! To be honest i didn't even care about her past. Does anyone even care about who the girls really are and where they come from?-I don't think so. We all know that most people are fake when they appear on the show, everybody has a story. Besides to be a model you kinda have to be somebody else to get jobs booked. So i say again the past does not matter, what matters is the future. I also think Tyra Banks should of done something about it as she does have the last say. Don't get me wrong I love Tyra especially because she is so understanding and compassionate toward people and she always tries to understand where people come from and encourage them to make a better choice in life or their future and i'm sure she believes in second chances. I am a south african and i do strongly feel that Tyra should give Angelea another chance at being a model with no competition. From what i've heard (read and seen on tv) Tyra has a good heart and always chooses to do the right thing. She has the last say >it is her show< And i think Tyra should grant Angelea what she deserves and worked hard for.
ReplyDeleteI suspected that Angelea was pregnant looking at her physique from beginning, and even more when Jay referred to her "weak abs" during the salad shoot in Greece. I saw more when she was being photographed on the rocks too.
ReplyDeleteDespite Angelea being pregnant, the judges got it right... Lisa as the winner of ANTM with Allison 2nd. I'm surprised that Angelea was not out before. One thing I can give her is that she was very smart.. quick to solve the riddles, such as "pop ledem" and "something to do with music."
Angelea was a whiny opportunist who at every chance she got made a big thing about being from the Ghetto. She did not deserve to win. Everyone has a sob story, and hers is hardly the worst I've heard. I would not want to win something because people felt sorry for me. The bottom lines is that she was nasty foul mouthed class free dumpster woman who couldn't get over herself. She never said a good word about anyone. Just how much better she was than everyone else, and how she alone deserved to win because her childhood was rough. You better toughen up girl and quit acting like you are so entitled!

ReplyDeleteHas anyone hired this train wreck to do any modeling? I would suspect no, for the same reason you see very few ANTM contestants -- winners or not -- ever achieve anything. Their personality flaws (i.e. byatchiness) become glaringly apparent on the show. No employer wants to put up with that BS. The only one I ever see is Rayna. She's been on several commercials. She didn't win but was a very nice, upbeat person. The one who beat her -- Krista -- was an awful person and seems to have faded into obliviou.

It's friggen near impossible to even decipher what she's saying in an interview? You expect me to read a whole book of that ghetto mess? Please. Until she says what actually happened, I'm going to go ahead and stick with the rumor that she blabbed. But as far as I'm concerned, I have a hard time believing any story that involves her being the first choice because THAT seems like some serious nonsense. I have a theory- they found out she couldn't model and she got disqualified. LOLOLOL jk now I'm just hating haha.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad that it was taken away from her, if in fact she really did win. She is not a good role model. She has a foul mouth and said nothing but horrible things about the other ladies. And I cannot stand it when women refer to other women as "bitches". She used this term way too much. I wouldn't want her representing my magazine or company. She has no class, not even when she tries her hardest.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised if she made it as far as she did by sucking a judge or exec because she wasn't remotely impressive in a single episode. I'll say that her song was pretty good but as far as modeling she's just awful. Dead eyes, awkward in photoshoots, and absolutely no idea how to pose. Not to mention her bad attitude. All she did was talk crap about the other girls, even some who valued her friendship. She mentioned every five minutes that she came from the ghetto and deserved to win. Her vague sob story couldn't even make her likeable. I'm not trying to talk crap but Lisa said it best when she described Angelea as someone who acted like the world owed her something. I have no idea how she made it as far as she did. If she would have won I would have lost respect for everyone responsible and stop watching the show. I wish her the best really but that cycle was irritating to watch. I am glad Lisa won, she deserved it. I would have liked to see Allison win too but she has a large fanbase outside of antm now and doesn't really need it so the finale was satisfying though an obvious insincere retape.
ReplyDeleteI agree with one of the Anonymous posters above. They may be on to something bc why would she say it was a "hypocrisy"? So I do believe some dirt came up from Angelea's past while they accepted Lisa's dirt in her past and made it seem like it was an obstacle in her life and they were by her side to the fullest. However, Angelea was given the boot for the dirt in her past which is indeed hypocrisy at it's best. It's just weird that it came up when it was at the time of judging. I feel someone sabotaged or rigged this win on purpose. Maybe a judge that wasn't a fan of her. Hmmm... It's pretty easy to find a mug shot on the internet.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Angelea should have stayed as long as she did. She seems so unprofessional, how many times did she break down in the All Star cycle alone? And Lisa shouldn't have gotten it either. Allison should have won. She was robbed in both of her cycles, and the fact that the judges would make her runner-up not once, but twice, just confirms what I already thought about Top Model being a joke and having nothing to do with real modeling. It's just a big gimmick and I don't know how somebody with as much experience as Tyra Banks can have such horrible taste in contestants as well as challenges...
ReplyDeleteHonestly, what was with making the models sing? She tried to sing and failed horribly, why make all of the contestants do it too? They signed up for ANTM, not American Idol.
She didnt win, she got discualified before panel, cant tell us why, therefor she can say what she wants but she didnt win.
